Lotus Sametime brings people together

This article in DominoPro highlights the advantages of Lotus Sametime. Sametime 1.5 gives users instant access to meetings and messages through instant messaging, and version 2.0, previewed at DevCon in San Francisco, has the additional capabilities of realtime audio and video delivery. It allows groups of people to come together in virtual meeting rooms, complete with a drawing board and technology for sharing software programs.

Super.move to provide easier migration

At PC Expo, Lotus Development Corp. announced the latest offering in Lotus’ Super.move migration program that should streamline the migration path to the Lotus Domino server for customers with advanced collaboration and messaging needs. It’s being targeted at customers building advanced collaborative solutions who don’t want to spend valuable resources implementing a complex migration package. The Super.move Acceleration Packs for Microsoft Exchange build on migration capabilities already found in R5 and help organizations migrate from Exchange to Lotus Notes clients and Domino R5 without interruption to daily business functions.

Lotus teams with Into Networks

At PC Expo, Into Networks and Lotus Development Corp. announced a cooperative relationship that will allow consumers and small businesses to rent or subscribe to Lotus SmartSuite applications over the Internet. The Lotus software will be available as part of Into Networks’ Home Office category. According to the press release, "When customers select a title, it is instantly launched over their broadband connections and runs on their desktops without time-consuming downloads or the hassles of installing the title."

Palm Mobile Internet Kit

Palm, Inc. today announced a product to enable Palm users worldwide to connect wirelessly to the Internet from most Palm handheld computers in use today. The $50 Palm Mobile Internet Kit allows you to connect wirelessly to the Internet using a mobile phone or a Palm-compatible modem. The new kit offers Palm users the same access to Internet content and communication tools that is available today through the Palm VII wireless handheld computer. According to the press release (which is not yet up on the Palm site), availability is "later this year".

Lotus teams with Amadeus

Amadeus Global Travel Distribution LLC said it’s trying to get into the business-to-business travel market by teaming up with Lotus Development Corp. to design corporate travel management applications that will run on intranets or the Internet. Amadeus and Lotus didn’t disclose detailed technology plans beyond saying that the promised applications will work on top of Lotus’ messaging and collaboration software.
