AvantGo joins GAA

AvantGo announced that it has teamed up with Ericsson Inc. and joined the GPRS Application Alliance (GAA), an Ericsson-led initiative to support the creation and adoption of Mobile Internet applications based on the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) standard. Other Alliance members include IBM, Palm Computing, Lotus, Oracle and Symbian. The relationship with Ericsson is a step for Mobile Unity, AvantGo’s strategy to deliver Web-based information and applications to all classes of wireless devices.

GroupWise goes Bulletproof

InfoWorld reports that Novell is getting ready to outline what’s new in the next version of GroupWise. Code named Bulletproof, the product will have XML as a backbone for closer application integration. The article also says that Bulletproof will include tighter integration between the GroupWise groupware suite and Novell Directory Services (NDS) eDirectory.

Ups and downs

If you tried to get into our site on Monday and had some problems, we’re hoping they’re now long gone. Verio, our ISP, has had some hardware difficulties in their facility and they’ve been chasing ghosts most of Monday. Lotus, Ericsson alliance

Lotus and Ericsson announced a strategic alliance. The companies will work together to ensure that Ericsson Smartphones and Communicators connect to Lotus Domino. Ericsson has licensed 2 million copies of Lotus Organizer 5.0 personal information management system, which will be bundled with select Ericsson Smartphones and Communicators based on the Symbian operating system.

Wireless access to Exchange

Wireless Knowledge LLC, a Microsoft and Qualcomm joint venture, launched the Workstyle Server, a server software that enables wireless intranet access to information on the enterprise network. With the Workstyle Server, an enterprise can extend wireless access to Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5-based corporate email, calendar and contacts to mobile workers using wireless Internet devices.

Palm, Lotus join initiative

ZDNet reports that Lotus will team up with companies such as Palm, Psion, IBM, Starfish, Motorola and Nokia to for the SyncML Initiative. The SyncML Initiative’s goal is to develop an open standard for synchronizing data across different computer platforms.
