Yahoo is being sued in a California class action lawsuit for misrepresenting the terms of its paid premium email service, Google Watch has learned. The suit comes in the same month that the company is being sued for $20 million for illegal use of an image in its email marketing materials.

In a complaint filed earlier this month in California federal district court, the litigant claims that she purchased Yahoo’s $35 per annum Personal Address email service, which, among other things, offered email service with no advertisements attached. After purchasing the premium email option however, the litigant claims the advertisements continued to appear.

Mozilla released new security and stability updates for both versions of its Firefox browser and for its Internet application suite, SeaMonkey. The new updates eradicate a minor FTP PASV port-scanning vulnerability, a Mozilla spokesperson said.

Freewebs announced it is adding widgetized Freewebs Forums to their already extensive catalog of easy-to-use Web site building tools.

A security researcher has found a way hackers can make PCs of unsuspecting Web surfers do their dirty work, without having to actually commandeer the systems.

That’s possible with a new security tool called Jikto. The tool is written in JavaScript and can make PCs of unknowing Web surfers hunt for flaws in Web sites, said Jikto creator Billy Hoffman, a researcher at Web security firm SPI Dynamics. Hoffman, who developed the tool as a way to advance Web security, plans to release Jikto publicly later this week at the ShmooCon hacker event in Washington, D.C.

WindJack Solutions announced the release of PDF CanOpener 3.0, a major update of its Adobe Acrobat plug-in for in-depth analysis and manipulation of the internals of PDF documents. Version 3.0 is compatible with Acrobat 8.0, has a more flexible user interface, and includes new options for printing PDF structures and viewing XML data in an external editor.

PDF power users and developers have a consistent need to identify, locate, and manipulate data in a PDF such as font type, color space, image compression and resolution values, etc. PDF CanOpener provides a solution with an easy to understand visual display of the internal PDF structures, and powerful tools for navigating between visual elements on a page and objects in the PDF structure. Once identified, PDF CanOpener provides the ability to edit, copy/paste and print this structural information.
