Lotus says the Microsoft Exchange team posted a document on their Web site claiming Microsoft Outsells Lotus Notes in 1998. International Data Corporation’s (IDC) independent market report has contradicted their ideas.

Noblestar spin-off

Noblestar Systems Corporation reported today that it has successfully spun off Riverbed Technologies, Inc., one of Noblestar’s wholly-owned subsidiaries. Riverbed, known for its flagship product, Scout, will continue to develop and sell specialized middleware and connectivity software aimed at the "hyper-growing" mobile computing market. Riverbed’s product, Scout, started as a way to hook up multiple, simultaneous users of handheld deveices and smart phones directly to a server running enterprise applications. Enterprise applications include ERP packages like PeopleSoft and SAP, as well as custom developed applications.

Microsoft price plan

SmartSuite beta

The next release of SmartSuite will go into beta in late February or early March, with Lotus shooting for a mid-1999 release date. According to PC Week, Lotus will work to integrate SmartSuite with the forthcoming Notes 5.0.

Centra’s Symposium

News.com reports PricewaterhouseCoopers will partner with Centra to incorporate the software company’s Symposium distance learning package into their application deployment services, enabling project collaboration, virtual classrooms, and training. The partnership represents a significant loss to Lotus, which has been heavily promoting a new version of LearningSpace.

Sun claims low TCO

Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced that Sun Internet Mail Server software has the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) versus competitive messaging products. Sun Internet Mail Server was found to be 45 percent less expensive to own and operate than competing products according to a new report from the Radicati Group, Inc., a messaging industry analyst firm. Sun also announced that its messaging platform continues to gain momentum with nearly 10 million mailboxes sold since first shipping the product just over one year ago.
