PC Magazine has this review of PGP Desktop 9. New in version 9, it handles security tasks at the network level, encrypting and decrypting within the POP3/SMTP, IMAP4, Exchange, or Lotus Notes email stream.

IBM opens support center for Asia-Pacific

IBM has set up its first Asia Pacific Lotus Technical Support Center. Initially, it will offer back office support to IBM customers in Asia Pacific for Lotus software. This may extend to the other five brands it has in the business process area, including Web Sphere, DB 2, Tivoli and Rational.

Open Documents Format solution is in the works

IBM vice president of Workplace, Portal and Collaboration Products Ken Bisconti told the folks at ZDnet that IBM not only has an Open Documents Format-compliant solution in the works, but that it will also be released by the end of the year. Apparently, that solution is IBM’s Workplace.

Microsoft’s business shuffle

MSNBC reports that Microsoft’s seven divisions will be merged into three groups — Platform Products & Services, which includes Windows, MSN, and the Server & Tools division; the Business group, which includes Office and Microsoft Business Solutions; and the Entertainment & Devices division, which includes Xbox and the mobile devices group. Microsoft also announced that chief technical officer Ray Ozzie, the creator of Lotus Notes, will expand his role to guide Microsoft’s efforts to expand its Web services business.

Proposion announced the availability of Proposion Portal Migrator, a tool to transfer Lotus Notes content into SharePoint environments. Portal Migrator allows organizations to retain knowledge histories in Lotus Notes while taking advantage of new strategic collaborative environments like SharePoint Windows 2003 or Windows SharePoint Services 2003.
