BT Total Broadband’s new Home Hub gives customers the best wireless signal of any UK broadband provider thanks to next-generation wi-fi technology that enables reception even in areas that other routers find difficult to reach.

The sleek new design houses the latest "N" standard wireless technology which gives stronger and more reliable connections than routers offered by other UK broadband providers; BT is the first UK ISP to offer "N"-standard wireless technology.

OpenCloud Limited announced the launch of Rhino 2.0 which is fully compliant with the new JAIN SLEE v1.1 standard. JAIN SLEE is the Java standard for a multi-protocol, run-time environment of telecommunications services, designed specifically to meet the stringent requirements of the industry. OpenCloud’s enhanced application server offers true portability of services across JAIN SLEE platforms.

This opens the market for application developers to sell products which can be deployed on all JAIN SLEE compliant platforms in any telecommunications network.

Rostrvm Solutions responds to recent research on call agent productivity with rostrvm CallGuide, an integrated agent support application. The drain on productivity is caused by increasingly complex administration tasks in the call centre; on average agents spend 71% of their time entering data, making notes, seeking advice and reading from information screens.

Equally alarming for businesses, research showed that agents are using five separate applications on average to deal with a call.

RealVNC has launched the latest version of its enterprise level VNC, Virtual Network Computing, solution for remote desktop control. VNC Enterprise Version 4.4 is designed to make it even easier for a user on one computer to take full control of another, regardless of platform, operating system or location. For example, mobile devices can be used to mange a remote PC from the other side of the world or local Unix applications delivered to Windows or Mac users.

BT has decided to invest in fibre on a large scale. This is great news for the UK, and will remove some of the awkward questions about why the UK is languishing behind many other nations in the provision of high-speed broadband. BT’s announcement is primarily about VDSL/FTTC, with some limited FTTH.

SanDisk Corporation has introduced the SanDisk(r) SD(tm) WORM card, a Write Once Read Many (WORM) digital memory card intended for uses such as police investigations, court testimony, electronic voting and other applications where data files must be protected from alteration or deletion.

Digital data written to SanDisk SD WORM cards is effectively locked as soon as it is recorded; there is no physical way to alter or delete individual recorded files. Viewing the data is simple, because the cards are readable in any standard SD slot attached to a computer or other SD-compatible device.

SanDisk Corporation announced that Howard County Genera Hospital in Columbia, Maryland, has selected SanDisk’s Cruzer(r) Enterprise secure USB flash drives and Central Management & Control (CMC) server software to protect highly confidential medical and organizational data.

SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise flash drives protect all files stored on the drive with advanced hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption. Users are required to create a complex password during the set-up process. The combination of encryption and password protection makes it extremely difficult for unauthorized users to access data if the drive is lost or stolen.

IBM’s project "Atlantic" is a joint work between IBM and SAP. It’s being seen as the "killer" app to integrate Notes and SAP.
