Notes Client and proxy login

Thomas Lang has noticed a problem in the Proxy Server login form in the Notes client, there is a login name length limit. This has prevented some users, with long names, from accessing the proxy server. Do you know of any fixes, work-arounds for this?

Do Not Remove Empty Folders from your Mailbox once you have Archived the Contents!

Thomas Rajiv got a rude surprise when he deleted some folders in his active mailfile and had the corresponding folder in his archive vanish.

What Google did right

On Saturday, Google killed the Internet — at least for about an hour. Saturday morning, between 9:30a.m. and 10:25a.m. Atlanta time, no matter where you were in the world, if you did a Google search, you’d see the message, "This site may harm your computer" returned for each result.

Given that more than half of all Internet searches are done using Google, this effectively meant that most Web accesses resulted in a dire warning. That was obviously a serious error in Google’s operation. What’s most interesting, though, is how well Google handled the problem.

Export ANY Notes view to MS Excel

This app from Devin Olson has been given a 5-Star rating on OpenNTF. It currently works with Notes 6.0 and above to allow MS Excel export capability to any Notes view.

.Domino Framework 0.7 Released

Peter Presnell has posted what he expects to be the last beta version of .Domino Framework to the OpenNTF website. Peter expects version 1.0 to be released at the end of March.

Show images in Notes 8.x

In Notes 8.x default security disables the display of embedded images. Jakob Majkilde provides the template variable to change and links to related articles.

Nielsen Deletes Reply-To-All Button

If only more corporate decisions lacked such starry-eyed optimism. To not merely reduce but "eliminate bureaucracy and inefficiency" Nielsen has disabled the "Reply to All" button in their mail client. While it may cut down on some silliness, it’s doubtful it will be the glorious solution they envision.

David on DTV on CNN

David’s back on CNN.com, this time with Unhappy Days: How the economy will tank when plain ol’ TV goes away. On rare occasions, the United States Congress does the right thing. This may be one of those occasions, but we’ll have to wait until next week to find out. On Monday, the Senate voted to delay the U.S. television conversion from analog to digital by four months, from a February 17th "doomsday" to a potentially less problematic June 12.
