Notes R5 in Q4

Will Lotus get Notes/Domino released before 1999? Internet Week reports that Lotus will meet its promised Q4 ship date. Lotus said it will post the latest and last major beta before shipping 5.0 on its Web site later this week.

Tally Systems announced the release of MailCheck 4.1, a multi-vendor e-mail management system that monitors the end-to-end connectivity of e-mail networks. MailCheck 4.1 is designed to optimize e-mail performance for both proprietary and open messaging systems, such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes.

Lotus, Navy make deal

Federal Computer Week reports that the US Navy has reached an agreement with Lotus Development Corp. to purchase up to 500,000 seats of its entire suite of groupware as part of the Navy plan to build a massive, worldwide intranet that would support everything from electronic commerce to battlefield communications.

Future of eSuite

Thanks to one of our readers who sent in this article on Lotus eSuite. According to InfoWorld, Lotus is working to integrate the eSuite WorkSpace with standard Web browsers or Lotus Notes client software. Lotus also plans to further break the suite into components.

IBM makes move

Business Week reports that more than 650 salespeople will move from IBM to Lotus in January. The move is expected to place greater emphasis on Lotus Notes sales.
