REAL Information Systems and Camborn International Systems launched a series of new e-business packages, designed to help them capitalize on the power of the Internet. The initial packages are designed for companies in either the retail sector or supply chain and distribution, and combine Lotus Domino-based software REAL Web Business with IBM’s leading Netfinity and AS/400e servers.

Compaq is now offering a full suite of Year 2000 Healthcheck Services to meet the needs of customers using Intel-based desktops and servers running Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, and Novell NetWare operating systems. The tools also inventory standard applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, and report on their Year 2000 readiness status.

News.com reports that Lotus has confirmed the existence of a bug in Notes 4.5 and 4.6 that can expose encrypted email messages. The report offers two ways to work around this. First, administrators should check to make sure that the correct syntax is used to specify the "Mail File Location" in the "Location Document." And, users should click the button to "Encrypt Saved Mail" in the "Mail Preferences" area every time they send an encrypted message.

Novell laid out plans to overhaul its GroupWare software. News.com says the changes will include an application framework, in which all data is exposed via XM, and Novell Directory Services (NDS) will be used for setting access privileges.

IBM and Novell announced on Monday that they will market a NetWare version of WebSphere Advanced Edition, which adds EJB support and connectivity to IBM transactional (TXSeries) and messaging (MQSeries) back-end systems.

Novell announced that they will give away source code to its NetWare operating system. Novell also revealed this week a revised strategy for its GroupWise messaging and collaboration system.
