
<p>Newegg, the second largest online retailer in the world behind Amazon, will have to pay patent-licensing giant TQP Development a royalty of $2.3 million for patent infringement, a local federal jury decided Monday after a week-long trial here in U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap's courtroom.</p><p>TQP, a company owned by Erich Spangenberg, of Dallas, filed suit against Newegg accusing the company of infringing by actively inducing its customers to infringe TQP's patent, relating to encryption.</p><p>"At base, this case is about Newegg's infringement of a constitutional property right, TQP's property right," Attorney Marc Fenster, representing TQP, said in closing arguments.</p><p>The jury found that TQP did prove that Newegg directly infringed the claims in the patent and also induced its customers to infringe the asserted claims in the patent.
