Dropbox today released a version 2.0 of its desktop client for Windows and Mac OS X, featuring a new drop-down menu from which users can create links to documents and folders, accept invitations, view shared links or albums, and monitor changes to their accounts. The new client is also supported by Dropbox for Teams, the business-groomed version of the popular file-sharing service.

"If someone shares a link with you, you can now get to it immediately -- directly from the Dropbox menu. You'll get notifications in real time as people share with you, and can see them later just by clicking the Dropbox icon. You can also accept or decline invitations to shared folders directly from your desktop," wrote Dropbox engineer Max Belanger.

Other changes include a fix to a bug through which discrete graphics could be enabled on OS X laptops.

The new menu is only enabled for Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and later, and for Windows XP and later. The new menu is the major change to Version 2.0 of Dropbox. There's no Linux support for the time being.
