Nuxeo, the open source content management platform, announced a new mobile development tool that builds on its open source roots to enable customers to build content management applications for mobile devices.

Nuxeo is offering tools based on the open source Apache Cordova to build hybrid HTML5 and native apps for any platform. The beauty of the Apache Cordova approach is that it adapts to multiple screen sizes, automatically eliminating the need for redesigning and testing across multiple screens.

It provides a way for developers to build mobile content apps to work in conjunction with the back-end enterprise content management applications on a variety of platforms and devices.

Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca says the new tools give his customers the means to build custom mobile applications on top of the Nuxeo platform. "Our customers now have a ready-to-use framework to develop content applications to serve the needs of their mobile workers. With a secure content repository and mobile access, all the components are in place to develop applications for digital signatures on-the-fly, or instant upload of images, or case entries from the field for medical workers, insurance agents, designers or engineers," he said in a statement.
