Though we're proud of our operational performance in operating Amazon S3 for almost 2.5 years, we know that any downtime is unacceptable and we won't be satisfied until performance is statistically indistinguishable from perfect.
It's not the failure we're applauding. It's not even the substantial steps they took to deal with them. It's the passion. Service is important, but so is passion. We're seeing fewer and fewer businesses displaying any soul at all, so to see Amazon be clear about their problem and to go out of their way to say, "...we want you to know that we are passionate..." they deserve kudos. So often, we wonder if "they" even care. It's great to see the S3 team really does.
