IBM Lotus Expeditor is a framework that includes client, server, and tooling and that provides an integrated environment for enterprise applications. IBM Lotus Expeditor Client is built on eRCP and adds J2EE and IBM’s own enterprise application components to eRCP. IBM Lotus Expeditor Server interacts with Lotus Expeditor Client and is well integrated with IBM server software, thus providing a good entry point for building Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions on Lotus Expeditor. Lotus Expeditor also provides a toolkit to help you if you are not familiar with OSGi Alliance, but know J2EE so that you can quickly and easily build applications for Lotus Expeditor.

Microsoft announced that it is working with IBM to deliver a powerful Windows Embedded-based "plug-and-play" solution to help make it faster and easier for retailers and hospitality organizations to deliver information and services to time-conscious, empowered, consumers.

According to the two companies, Microsoft’s Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS) operating system will come pre-loaded on IBM point-of-sale, self checkout and self-service kiosks offerings. The combined solution provides retailers and hospitality operators a simple, easy-to-manage point-of-service platform for empowering workers, and connecting consumers to products and information in a seamless, integrated retail environment.

IBM announced the System z10 mainframe to help clients create a new enterprise data center. The system z10 is designed from the ground up to help dramatically increase data center efficiency by significantly improving performance and reducing power, cooling costs, and floor space requirements. It offers unmatched levels of security and automates the management and tracking of IT resources to respond to ever-changing business conditions.

In addition to the z10, IBM also announced it has invested $300 million in architects, technical skills, as well as design and benchmarking centers to help clients transform to a new enterprise data center. Qualified clients can receive free assessment services to prioritize and take action to implement a more efficient, shared and dynamic IT infrastructure.

Several technologies are poised to shake up the data center. Gartner Research Vice President Carl Claunch provided eWEEK with a list of 10 technologies to watch. They are all relatively immature today, Claunch said, but will mature enough for widespread use in the next 18 to 36 months. In many cases, he said, maturity will occur only for a subset of each technology or for well-defined applications, with full maturity for more general use lagging beyond the three-year window.

The 10 technologies that follow should be considered in conjunction with many proven, fully mature technologies, as well as others that did not make this list but can also provide value for many companies.

Here’s an interesting procedural note: these hearings were originally scheduled for February 15, but they got pushed back so the Oversight Committee could hear testimony from baseball player Roger Clemens instead. Cult of the Dead Cow, or cDc, an old-school hacking crew famous for its anti-censorship stance, has shipped a new tool that turns the Google search engine into an easy-to-use vulnerability scanner.

Taking its cue from Johnny Long’s Google Dorks–search queries that reveal sensitive information–cDc’s new Goolag Scan pushes the envelope even more, offering a stand-alone Windows GUI-based application to power the searchers.

The open-source program comes with about 1,500 custom Google search queries embedded by default to run searches for vulnerable Web applications, misconfigured Web servers with open backdoors, sensitive user names and passwords, and other documents accidentally exposed on the Internet.

Tom Noonan, the president and CEO of Internet Security Services who oversaw the company’s acquisition by IBM in 2006 for $1.3 billion, has stepped down from the job.

Noonan resigned the post the week of Feb. 11 for personal reasons and will be replaced by Val Rahmani, a longtime IBM executive, according to a company spokesperson.
