Using Domino Web Access 8

Users can now learn how to use Domino Web Access (for Release 8) right in their office with TLCC’s newest user course for Notes and Domino 8. This course can be taken using a web browser or a Notes client. Using Domino Web Access 8 is one of five courses available with TLCC’s site license for Notes 8 users. All five courses are easily customized to suit the organization’s exact needs. Lessons can be modified or removed. A customer can even add their own lesson on in-house applications to provide a complete tailored learning experience for everyone in the organization.

Antivirus is wasted money

Companies are wasting money on security processes–such as applying patches and using antivirus software–which just don’t work, according to Cisco’s chief security officer John Stewart.

Speaking at the AusCERT 2008 conference in the Gold Coast, Stewart said the malware industry is moving faster than the security industry, making it impossible for users to remain secure.

McAfee anti-fraud researcher charged with fraud

One of the researchers behind ScanAlert, the "Hacker Safe" certification company McAfee recently acquired, is facing fraud charges in Indiana. Brett Oliphant, whose title had been vice president of security services before the Napa, California, company was acquired by McAfee in January, is facing 11 counts of securities fraud in transactions that allegedly brought in more than $1.215 million.

Oliphant and his brother Bryan were charged in December. Their trial is set for Nov. 18 at the Elkhart County Superior Court in Indiana. ScanAlert built technology for auditing and then certifying Web sites as "Hacker Safe." McAfee paid $54.9 million for the company in January and has since renamed the certification service "McAfee Safe."

IBM honors elite technical employees

IBM has elevated nine employees to the title of IBM Fellow–its most prestigious technical honor. The company also presented more than $3.5 million in cash awards to corporate and patent portfolio awardees in addition to awards given to more than 500 IBM technical leaders from around the world directly responsible for collaborating to deliver true innovation and business value.

IBM conferred the accolades and awards at its 2008 Corporate Technical Recognition Event in Phoenix, Ariz. CTRE is a 45-year tradition at IBM, established to recognize exceptional technical employees and reward them for extraordinary achievements and contributions to the company’s technology leadership.

IBM announced details of new application security software designed to help clients securely manage employee, partner and customer IT users and their access to company applications and information.

The new release of IBM Tivoli Federated Identity Manager software focuses on enabling a company’s separate business divisions to deploy secure software applications using open standards and a wide range of security credentials without needing to embed complex security logic into each application. The solution simplifies application integration using many forms of user credentials and facilitates the secure sharing of information between trusted parties–such as business partners or separately managed divisions within an organization operating in an SOA environment.
