Where is IBM heading?

InfoWorld reports that IBM officials met at their Academy of Technology conference and discussed with media members where the company is headed. IBM later this year plans to make available for free to DB2 users its mobile, embeddable DB2 Everyplace database to boost deployment on cellphones and PDAs. The database also is being integrated with the WebSphere Everyplace Access suite, which provides mobility for wireless applications.

Return of Green Streak

TechTarget reports that IBM reintroduced its Green Streak marketing program, this time with rebates and discounts of up to $40,000 on iSeries servers and a financing promotion, dubbed Power of Zero Plus, that allows customers to defer all payments on IBM products until next year, interest free. In January, IBM introduced two low-end additions to the iSeries family and included WebSphere Express as part of its standard offering in the new models. In addition to WebSphere Express, the iSeries Enterprise Edition systems include IBM Lotus QuickPlace and Lotus Instant Messaging, Tivoli and DB2 database software.

IntelliReach says anti-spam bills won’t work

IntelliReach Corporation announced today that they are cautioning network administrators, IT security professionals and others that recent legislative initiatives, such as Massachusetts’ new anti-spam bill and Senator Charles Schumer’s proposal of a national do-not-spam list, will not accomplish the task. The Massachusetts bill, sponsored by Democratic State Senator Jarrett Barrios, requires businesses to identify all email advertisements with the letters "ADV" in the subject line so recipients can filter out ads before reading them.

The company claims that RSA ClearTrust software can deliver administrative cost savings, improved employee efficiency and comprehensive security for enterprises leveraging the Lotus Notes platform.

Sony Ericsson P800

PC Magazine has this review of the Sony Ericsson P800, a PDA/Phone that uses Symbian OS. The Symbian synchronization software works with Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook files, and the email reader includes viewers for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Visto announces MessageXpress

Visto Corporation announced support of the new Windows Mobile software for Smartphones. Visto’s solution, MessageXpress, will allow Windows Mobile-based Smartphone customers to access their corporate email from Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange, or POP3 Internet email including attachments.

IBM boosts Content Management Portfolio

Internet News reports that IBM officials announced a raft of new products to bolster its content management portfolio. One is the Enterprise Content Management solution, which includes a CM Adapter for WebSphere Business Integrator lets users re-use, rather than re-create, content on the intranet or over the Internet. IBM also updated its Records Manager with the release of version 3, as well as usability with Lotus Domino, SAP and Exchange servers.

Arabic version of Lotus Domino Web Access launched

IBM Corporation yesterday launched IBM Lotus Domino Web Access, Arabic version. AME Info.com reports that this is a significant move for this region, as it gives mobile workers access to the same back end information services such as email and back end business applications as their desk-bound colleagues, in their native language.

SureWave supports Treo 600

JP Mobile announced at Gartner ITxpo that JP Mobile’s SureWave Enterprise Server (SureWave) supports the new Handspring Treo 600 series smartphones. Customers can continue to use the device’s familiar applications, without learning new ones, to access their Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino corporate email server.
