DOMINOPOWER SITE OF THE MONTH

By Heather McDaniel

DominoPower Magazine's Site of the Month for May is INAP (the International Network for Acid Prevention). INAP is an organization with membership that includes 16 mining and mineral companies from around the world. The goal of this organization is to undertake research and development to control the world's acid drainage from mine materials.

Acid drainage occurs when sulphide, a mineral naturally present in rocks, is exposed to oxygen and water, producing sulphuric acid that could enter the water supply and contaminate the environment.

Now that we've had our science lesson, I'm sure you would love to know what this has to do with Lotus Notes and Domino.

The INAP site was designed in Domino 4.6.4. It was created from the ground up, which means that templates were not used. It's a great example of what Domino can do without Web templates.

The public can access general pages and is encouraged to contribute as much as possible. Some information within pages is confidential to INAP members and for this reason is not available to the general public. To keep the secure areas secure, the site's creators used basic authentication and roles. The site contains frames, animated .GIF files that are stored in the database, embedded HTML and JavaScript for client side validation.

As shown in Figure A, it also has a customized search form that allows the searching of specific views within the database. There is also a hit counter, which is generated using CGI variables within LotusScript.
