<p>Migrating from one operating system to another is hard enough. Now, imagine migrating 18,000 applications. I hope you're sitting down.</p><p>While 18,000 applications sounds like (and is) an overwhelming total, it's not unique in the enterprise world, according to Greg Lambert of Quest Software, our guest on E2 Radio on Thursday, December 20. That number comes with bad news and good news for those managing migrations. We should probably get the bad news out of the way, first.</p><p>If you think that 10,000, 18,000, or 20,000 applications seem more than any organization could possibly have in their inventory, your world is going to be rocked to an ever-greater extent. Essential personal productivity and business process applications are one thing, but cloud computing, SaaS, and the growing number of mobile device App Bazaars mean that the total number of applications will only increase with time.</p><p>While the increase brings with it a corresponding rise in the options available for getting productive work accomplished, it does make the prospect of migrating operating environments more complicated.
